The Portal

Design Study 2018

This experiment is an exploration of a threshold that separates the two spaces (sacred and profane), and indicates the distance between different modes of being. In the worlds of Mircea Eliade, “The threshold is the limit, the boundary, the frontier that distinguishes and opposes the worlds”, but at the same time it is a “point of contact, where the passage from the profane world to the sacred becomes possible".

BREAKING THE BOUNDARIES

Student project 2017

Rehabilitation Center for Young Delinquents

Breaking the Boundaries is a rehabilitations center located in Grand Center area of St. Louis. The focal group for which the project is made is problematic youth, in need of rehabilitation, and whose behavior demands spaces of specific character. Their constant disconnect from everything that surrounds them lead to thinking that reestablishing these connections is a necessary part of their rehabilitation.

HEDGE

Art Installation 2017

Spatial Installation exhibited in Contemporary Art Museum in St.Louis, created from the donated carbon fiber material recycled plastic materials. The main goal of the project was to develop a wall design, where all the materials would be recycled and reused. The design became a reference to a green wall, which led to designing plant-like shapes to be cut out of the plastic. Saving material was essential, and developing mathematical tessellation that would maximize the surface material became dominant principle of the design.

TEATRO DE LA BOCA

2016 (student work)

In La Boca, one of the oldest parts of Buenos Aires, there are a lot of abandoned infrastructural and industrial objects that can be adapted and reused to serve to the overall neighborhood improvement. Underground cultures, artists and creatives of Buenos Aires ignited a new force for development that is rapidly spreading across this, once forgotten, area. Spaces for their activities become the focus of this project.

AROUND THE TREES - HOUSING PROJECT

Madrid 2015 (student work)

This is a multiple housing project, set on the historical orchard - a patch of nature in the dense urban fabric of Madrid. It is very close to the river and a vibrant public area.

Preserving the nature is one of the guiding ideas, as well as providing comfort in relation to nature and a unique view that this particular site can provide. Architecture was formed between the trees, organizing in clusters in organic principle.

MUSEUM OF BROKEN CONNECTIONS

2013 (student work)

Museum of Broken Connections refers to both, historical connections that need to be reestablished on this specific location, and physical connections to the old city and the river.

The physical paths connecting the project are called the bridge and the channel (connecting to the hill and the river) and the central object itself (the building) is the nodus, where all these directions finally intersect.

LIGHTHOUSING

2012 (student work)

Savamala represents a dense bohemian neighborhood of Belgrade, where many artists and craftsmen are situated.  Acupuncture distribution of the new elevated structures is to provide studio apartments for those individuals on top of the dense complex of the existing buildings. The paths connecting these “lighthouses” are creating characteristic playground for the visitors that would come to the neighborhood for art and crafts exhibitions, festivals and purchase. Most of the materials would be recycled from dilapidated and abandoned storages characteristic for the neighborhood.
